Ingredients

6 slices of sourdough bread slightly stale works best
3 large eggs
¾ cup milk or heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon sugar or honey
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons butter for cooking
Maple syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar for serving


Instructions

In a large bowl whisk together eggs milk vanilla extract cinnamon sugar and salt until fully combined
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and add butter
Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture for about 20 to 30 seconds per side ensuring even coating without making it too soggy
Place the soaked bread slices onto the heated pan and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown and slightly crispy
Remove from heat and serve warm with maple syrup fresh fruit powdered sugar or your favorite toppings

Notes

If your sourdough bread is fresh let it sit out overnight or lightly toast it before dipping to prevent sogginess
For a dairy-free version use almond milk oat milk or coconut milk instead of regular milk
To make a vegan version replace eggs with a flaxseed mixture and use plant-based milk
