Juicy ground beef patties smothered in rich mushroom gravy this classic Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy is the ultimate comfort food dinner.
Ingredients
1 ½ pounds ground beef
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon mustard powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon oil for searing
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cups mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons flour or 1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
Optional: parsley for garnish
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4–6 oval patties.
Heat oil in a large skillet. Sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Add onions and mushrooms to the same pan. Cook until softened and golden.
Sprinkle flour or stir in cornstarch slurry. Slowly add beef broth and Worcestershire, stirring constantly to make gravy.
Return patties to skillet. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until cooked through and flavors blend.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice. Garnish with parsley.
Notes
For extra richness, add a splash of cream to the gravy. Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
