Description
This orange croissant French toast is a zesty, buttery twist on a classic breakfast made with croissants, fresh orange juice, eggs, and vanilla.
Ingredients
4 large croissants, preferably day-old
3 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Butter for frying
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Maple syrup, for drizzling
Fresh orange slices or berries (optional)
Instructions
Slice croissants in half lengthwise and set aside.
In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
Dip each croissant half in the custard mixture, letting it soak for 15–20 seconds per side.
Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Cook soaked croissants for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crisp.
Plate the French toast and dust with powdered sugar.
Add orange slices or berries and drizzle with maple syrup before serving.
Notes
Day-old croissants work best for absorbing the custard without falling apart. You can use store-bought orange juice, but fresh juice and zest will elevate the flavor. For a dairy-free option, use almond or oat milk and coconut cream.
