Ingredients

Scale

Hawaiian rolls 12 slightly stale
Eggs 3 large
Milk or heavy cream ¾ cup
Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
Cinnamon ½ teaspoon
Sugar or honey 1 tablespoon
Salt pinch
Butter 2 tablespoons for cooking
Maple syrup fresh fruit or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

Whisk together eggs milk vanilla extract cinnamon sugar and salt in a large bowl until smooth
Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half if you prefer smaller pieces or keep them whole for a pull-apart style
Dip each roll into the egg mixture for 10 to 15 seconds per side allowing it to soak slightly but not get too soggy
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and melt butter
Place the soaked rolls onto the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crispy
Remove from heat and serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as maple syrup fresh berries or powdered sugar

Notes

For best results use slightly stale Hawaiian rolls to prevent sogginess
If your rolls are fresh leave them out overnight or lightly toast them before soaking
For a dairy-free version use almond milk or coconut milk and replace butter with coconut oil
For extra flavor add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of orange juice to the batter
For a caramelized crust sprinkle a little sugar on each side before cooking
